Peru: President Kuczynski resigns amid new bribery scandal

Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski offered his resignation on Wednesday after being implicated in a bribery scandal.

SOT, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru (Spanish): "In front of this difficult situation that has been generated and which makes me unfairly appear as guilty of acts in which I have not participated, I think that the best for the country is for me to renounce the Presidency of the Republic. Because I don't want to be an obstacle for our nation to find the path of unity and harmony that it so badly needs and that they have denied to me. I don't want neither the homeland nor my family to continue suffering with the uncertainties of the last times. There will be a constitutionally ordered transition."

SOT, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru (Spanish): "I have worked almost 60 years of my life with total honesty. The opposition has tried to paint me as a corrupt person and they have managed to influence a group of reasonable and honest workers around me, getting them unfairly involved in this plot to destroy the government. I categorically reject these unsubstantiated claims and reaffirm my commitment to an honest, moral and fair Peru for everyone."

SOT, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru (Spanish): "This political confrontation has created a climate of non-governance which does enormous damage to the country and does not allow us to advance."

SOT, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru (Spanish): "I refer the original copy of this letter to the Congress. I am transmitting it to Peru, resigning the position of Constitutional President of the Republic. I will forever continue being involved in the development of Peru." *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*
