Austria: Manhunt 'still ongoing' after three stabbed in Vienna - police

Police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer confirmed that an ongoing manhunt was underway for the suspect of a stabbing attack in Vienna on Wednesday, who is still at large after seriously injuring three people outside a restaurant.

SOT, Patrick Maierhofer, police spokesman (German): "We currently know that there was a knife attack at 19:45. Based on an eyewitness statements, a man stabbed three people directly outside the restaurant behind me. All three victims have life-threatening injuries and are currently in a hospital."

SOT, Patrick Maierhofer, police spokesman (German): "Currently we don't know much. What we know is that the attacker is a man. Eyewitnesses have told us he had a knife with him. He escaped in the direction of Praterstern street. This is what we currently know. The manhunt for the criminal is still ongoing, and it's our highest priority."

SOT, Patrick Maierhofer, police spokesman (German): "We know that that attacker picked his three victims randomly, in front of this restaurant, and he hurt the people badly during the attack."

SOT, Patrick Maierhofer, police spokesman (German): "There was a second stabbing attack soon after this attack near Praterstern train station. We do not know yet if these two attacks relate to each other. We are investigating this issue."

SOT, Patrick Maierhofer, police spokesman (German): "Since this crime has just happened, our highest priority at the moment is the manhunt for the criminal. We cannot yet seriously comment on the motive for the crime."
