In tonight's edition: Amnesty International says the Nigerian army ignored repeated warnings of an attack on Dapchi town; as central Mali increasingly becomes a target for jihadist attacks, frustrated locals take the law into their own hands and form their own militias; and Sudan, the world's last male northern white rhino, dies aged 45 in a blow to conservation efforts.
Amnesty International says the Nigerian army ignored repeated warnings of an attack on Dapchi town. Investigators from Amnesty say that security forces were told of the presence of Boko Haram militants hours before they took 110 schoolgirls last month.
Also, many of the recent jihadist attacks in Mali have happened in the north of the country. But since 2015 central Mali has increasingly become a target. Locals say they feel abandoned by the army and authorities and some have decided to take the law into their own hands and form their own militias.
And Sudan, the world's last male northern white rhino, has died. He passed away of old age at an elderly 45 years old. Sudan became a symbol of efforts to save his subspecies from extinction and now all hopes rest with IVF and the two females left behind.
