Turkey: Erdogan promises revenge for Kurds downing Turkish helicopter

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised that Kurdish militia 'will pay the price' for downing a Turkish helicopter, at a press conference in Istanbul on Saturday.

"We will make them pay a much bigger price than this. Maybe we will lose a helicopter, but they will pay the price for that not just once, but many, many more times," vowed Erdogan.

Earlier, the Turkish military confirmed that a helicopter had crashed in Afrin, northern Syria, resulting in the deaths of two crew members. It did not disclose the cause of the incident.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia also confirmed that a helicopter had crashed in the area.

The Turkish military operation in Afrin, northern Syria, began on January 20.
