Dionysus devotees mark Phallephoria in penis-themed procession

Hundreds of revellers danced and marched through the streets of Athens, Saturday, wearing large fake penises to celebrate the Phallephoria, a festivity which honours the god Dionysus.

The participants dressed up in ancient greek-like clothing and masks, as well as leather phalli.

Phallephoria honours Dionysus, the god of fertility and wine, associated with ritual madness in ancient Greek mythology.
