Catalonia parliament postpones election of new president

The Spanish region of Catalonia postponed the election of a new president after the country's highest court said the sole nominee, separatist leader Carles Puigdemont, was ineligible while he remains a fugitive in Belgium. The speaker of the parliament insisted that the former president was the only viable candidate, and said he would reconvene the session once Spanish authorities guaranteed they wouldn't interfere in the election. Meanwhile, pro-independence demonstrators are gathering outside the parliament in Barcelona to show their support for Puigdemont.
