Philippines: Thousands evacuated after Mayon volcano rumbles back to life

Thousands of residents have been told to evacuate the area after the Philippines most active volcano Mount Mayon spewed out ash into nearby villages, with residents warned that a "hazardous eruption" was possible in the next days or weeks, footage from the nearby Legazpi city shows on Monday.

The 2,460-metre (8,070-ft) volcano, located in Philippines north-eastern Albay province, spewed ash, rocks and fumes of sulphur over nearby villages following three steam explosions since Saturday, with authorities raising the alert level to level 3.

The Mount Mayon volcano last erupted in 2014, spewing out lava and forcing thousands of evacuate.
