Candidate Prime Minister for the Five Star Movement party (Movimento 5 Stelle) Luigi Di Maio presented the party’s uninominal college candidates for the March 4 elections, at a press conference in Rome on Monday.

The M5S candidate roster included academics, journalists, athletes and entrepreneurs, among others.

Di Maio defined the candidates as "super competent people" and expressed a goal to "give Italy the best parliamentary group it ever had."

Candidates included two-times Olympic swimming gold medalist Domenico Fioravanti and Commander Gregorio De Falco, who oversaw rescue operations during the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise liner shipwreck. De Falco compared Italy to a ship and underlined the necessity of changing its direction “having clearly established its route.”
