Hitler's Mercedes-Benz heads to auction in Scottsdale

Former Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's Mercedes-Benz will go on auction at Worldwide Auctioneers in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 17, as seen from footage released on Sunday.

The 1939 Mercedes-Benz 770, is one of 88 produced and was built for and owned by Hitler and was seized by Allied forces in 1945.

Auctioneer and co-founder at Worldwide Auctioneers Rod Egan stressed, "It is the most historically significant automobile offered for sale," adding "we can't change history." He noted "This car affects people differently in all parts of the world; it will stir a different emotion in different people."

The car is expected to sell for several million. According to reports, 10 percent of the earnings will go to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an international Jewish human rights organisation.

The car was sold in 2004 for €15 million - approximately $18 million, according to Egan.
