Afghanistan: 41 foreigners among 160 freed hostages - Afghanistan Interior Ministry

Forty one foreigners were among the 160 freed hostages, according to the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of Afghanistan Najib Danish, speaking at a press conference in Kabul on Sunday, regarding the Intercontinental Hotel attack on Saturday, which killed at least five people.

Fortunately all attackers were shot dead by Afghan forces and 160 hostages, with 41 people amongst them being foreigners, were freed and taken to a safe place," the Interior Ministry spokesperson said.

He added: "Afghan official teams are inspecting the hotel, maybe the number of casualties will rise," adding "we will share the updated number of causalities with media."

The Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul was under siege for 12 hours, after armed gunmen stormed the hotel, taking hostages and shooting at security guards while making their way into the hotel.

According to the Interior Ministry all six gunmen have been shot dead, and the official death toll is yet to be announced.

Because the inspection of the hotel is not over yet."

SOT, Najib Danish, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of Afghanistan (Dari): "21 days ago the responsibility of the hotel was handed over to a private security company, we are working on how the attackers were interested to the hotel and when you let us finish our research we will share the details with you."
